Yesterday I shared 10 Music Learning Station Activities you could do with your students. If you missed that post you can read it here.
Music stations or music centers, if you prefer, don’t have to be held during a traditional group or classroom environment. Today I wanted to share some different ideas about when you can do music learning station activities.
When To Do Music Learning Station Activities
Music Lab Rotation Stations
One of the lesson options I offer as an independent music teacher is a rotating lesson format. This is where students can rotate into 3 stations, one of which is their lesson with me. This is a great opportunity to hold music station activities as part of your lab rotation schedule.
If you want to learn more about this format, check out this blog post.
Music Camp
I find value in music camps so much that I hold them twice a year! Music camp is a great opportunity to try out music stations with your students. This will also allow you to take in more participants than you might have otherwise since you would be breaking students up into smaller groups.
You can find a round up of camps here. (Remember they aren’t just for summer)
Special Event, Lesson or Celebration
Integrate music station activities during a special event, a group lesson during a holiday week, or a fun celebration. i.e. Celebrate women’s history month by holding female composer stations with this composer time capsule bundle.
Creative Brain Breaks
Use music station activities as a creative brain break during longer periods. These breaks can help refresh students’ minds and promote a positive and fun learning environment. Simply grab some brain break cards from this bundle for SUPER easy station ideas.
Beginning of the Year Kickoff
Use music station activities as a fun kick-off for the beginning of the year! It’s a perfect time for students to get to know each other. Check out this blog post for some getting to know you activity ideas.
Integrate with Lessons
Introduce music stations as part of a broader lesson plan. For example, if you’re teaching about a specific musical concept or genre, incorporate related station activities to reinforce learning.
Student Showcases
Plan music station activities as part of a student showcase or performance event. This allows students to demonstrate their musical skills and creativity.
Reward or Free Time
Use music stations as a reward or as a fun activity during designated free time.
End of Term Review
Use music station activities as a fun and interactive way to review concepts at the end of a specific term. Review material that was covered in a particular unit or level during this time can help reinforce learning and provide a more hands-on experience.
Do you have a favorite time for music learning stations?
I hope you enjoyed these ideas for when you can do music learning stations with your students. Do you have a favorite time you like to do music learning stations? Do you do music stations and centers already? Tell me, what has been your favorite activity you have done with students? When do you usually do them?
