Ahoy Me Hearties! September 19th is “Talk Like a Pirate” Day! Are ye ready? Ye best get planning. Luckily I have made things easy for you! Below ye will find a roundup of music resources fittin’ for a Captain! Whether ye teach a crew of students or individually, there is something for everyone! Now batten down the hatches and get to work!

PIRATE WRITE THE ROOM BUNDLE

A group scavenger hunt activity, this bundle includes two activities! Pirate Melody Write the Room and Pirate Talk Rhythm Write the Room.

Get your students up and moving as they move around the room. Setting it up is super easy! Just print, laminate and cut the melody or rhythm cards and hang them around the room. Students will travel to find the matching graphic and notate the melody or rhythm on their worksheet.

Both include a bonus composition activity!


PIRATE BLAST MUSIC THEORY GAME

Avast ye, landlubbers! Get ready for a barrel of laughs with Pirate Blast – an exciting and unpredictable theory review game!

With over 120 flashcards covering note naming (staff, keyboard and finger numbers), rhythm, and music symbols, Pirate Blast is the perfect way for students to brush up on their music theory. Mix and match the flashcards, or divide them into subject or level for a more focused review.

Ahoy! Combining story telling with music composition, Creative Story Music Compositions encourages students to use their imagination. Multiple options for differentiated needs.

The purpose of the creative story compositions is to kick off the composition process in a creative way. There are 3 options to choose from. All 3 ways students are encouraged to create a short story along the way. Above the staff, there is a blank space to write in their story. Blank composition pages for both story and music notation is included when it’s time to pull it all together. Includes a video option too!

Music Note Stem Swimmers

“This resource is a great way to help kids remember note stem directions! The kids had a lot of fun making their ‘note swimmers’ and they can easily remember which way the stem directions go now.” Rachel W.

While not technically a pirate” theme, it pairs perfectly as an ocean theme. I recommend using this before you play Pirate Melody Write the Room! (see above).

Do your students need help remembering stem placement when drawing notes? Note Stem Swimmers is my favorite way of teaching students note stem direction and it’s easy for them to remember.
