Piano Pronto: Keyboard Kickoff Review

Have you heard the good news? Jennifer Eklund recently added a brand new book to the Piano Pronto method series called Keyboard Kickoff. Keyboard Kickoff is great for all beginners under age 10 or those who need a slower pace to begin with. Letter names are included in the note heads. The purpose of this is to give an instant connection to the notes on the staff to the notes on the keyboard. Repeated patterns do not include the letter names, thus teaching students to recognize patterns.

When students advance into Prelude, the letter names in the note heads will go away. You will notice a little overlap when going into Prelude from Keyboard Kickoff. I like this because the students feel successful right away as they advance, plus reviewing a bit is always a good thing.

For older beginners and adults I would recommend beginning with Prelude. As with Prelude, students begin Keyboard Kickoff reading on the staff notation from the very beginning. There are theory exercises included throughout the book, many familiar tunes that students will love, plus you will still find my favorite Piano Pronto feature- Pronto Prep!

The Keyboard Kickoff Teacher Duets have just been released and are now available for teachers to use with their students! My students have already enjoyed playing along with me using the teacher duets. The duets are fun and very musical. They add quite a bit to the students piece. I highly recommend getting a copy of the teacher duets.

Keyboard Kickoff gives the perfect foundation for piano lessons! Jennifer Eklund has created a helpful note to the teacher in answering common questions in regards to Keyboard Kickoff. I would recommend taking the time to read it here. As with all the music on PianoPronto.com, you can view every page and listen to every piece before purchasing.

Already using this product! I especially like her rhythm words that she attaches to each note.
“Hold-it” for a half note, “Hold this long note” for the whole note. I have twin 4.5 year old boys that LOVE to yell out the words for the notes! Great job Jennifer…AGAIN.

I am beginning to transition my current students over to Piano Pronto as they either finish their current books or reach a brick wall and need inspiration and motivation to continue. So I would love to have this book to just start new students out in, thus eliminating any future transitions!

I would love a chance to try out this new book! Part of the fun of teaching private lessons is figuring out how each kid ticks and how they learn. While my current method books work great for most students, it’s always fun to check out new resources for even more ideas.

I started using Keyboard Kickoff for the first time with a student two weeks ago, and she is going gangbusters! This student had struggled two years ago for six months, using a traditional method, and both she and her mom are *thrilled* with her progress using Keyboard Kickoff. Thanks, Jennifer, for creating something that is making a difference in how we teach our students!

I have all of her method books, numerous supplementals and the prelude duet. Would love to add the KK duet book to my collection! Was so thrilled when I met Jennifer at MTNA and saw that finally there was a method that started students ON staff! I was using an old out of print method, copyrighted in 1947 prior to discovering her!

I have switched almost all of my students to Piano Pronto. Just ordered 7 more books today! My students are loving Jennifer Eklund’s work and are progressing wonderfully. They are practicing more! The duets are interesting and motivate the kids to perfect their pieces. I LOVE that the students are on the staff from day one. This just makes sense to me. Wonderful method!

I love the clean, easy to read print. New concepts are presented on a large part of the page. In most method books it is too small. The Piano Prep lines allow students to hone in on the new concept in context, so when they see it in the piece it all makes sense.

A truly remarkable series that leaves your students begging for more. It’s for all types of students of all skill levels. What I love the most is how it fits nicely into their curriculum and easy to work around. Can be used as a curriculum on it’s own; also, as a supplement to other series. I find that the method works best for young-late beginners and beginner adult students.
