Description
If your students enjoy Witches Brew or Wild Turkey then they will love Spin a Rhythm!
Spin a Rhythm takes the fear out of composing and turns it into a game. Students can create a fun music composition by rolling dice and spinning for notes. It’s a great way to review note placement on the staff (stems going up/down), time signatures, rhythm, measures… all while creating a fun piece they can call their own!
Spinner options:
- Homemade option 1: You will want to get what is called a brad. (you can find them at office supply store’s, etc…) then I just take a paperclip and wrap it around it. With the long part of the paper clip sticking straight out. Make sure you print the spinner on card stock.
- Homemade option 2: Take a long paper clip and hold a pen or pencil on the end of the paper clip and spin.

Thanks for your feedback Rebecca! 🙂

Great idea for a composition starter! I have several shy students who are afraid to take a risk and try creating their own pieces. This game allows them to create without seeming risky.

That is the goal, so happy it’s working! 🙂

A lot of my students are interested in composition and this would be a good way to encourage their interest.

For sure, it’s a nice guided activity that helps them get started. I hope they enjoy it! 🙂
