Music Flash Class- App Giveaway!

Music Flash Class is by far my favorite flash card app out there! You choose the notes on the grand staff that you want the student to drill, you decide whether you want to test or teach. You decide how many cards to drill, how long to test and how quickly the student must answer. You decide whether to drill in letter names, solfege, piano keyboard etc… You can even select the key signature that you want to test in. Everything is totally customizable! LOVE!!!

There are also built in games or challenges for students. The Hot Potato game is a student favorite in my studio. Just a little tip if you play this game with a group of students, be sure to have your IOS device on the floor and tell them they must keep it on the floor when passing it to the next student. The first instinct is for them to throw it and you don’t want that!  Here is a fun video that Henry posted of his students playing the Hot Potato game. Hot Potato Video

    I love these giveaways! We use flashcards all the time. in the summers we have a Great Flashcard Challenge where kids are timed for 2 minutes to see how many they can get correct. Prizes at the end of the summer based on improvement and overall top 3.

    I admittedly don’t use flashcards very much in my teaching – instead, I usually quiz notes using a whiteboard with the staff. That way I can easily target certain notes or areas of the staff. But this app looks amazing!!

    We use flashcards for match game, say and play, and keyboard “bingo” in addition to just drilling. Would love to have something to “spice up” our flashcard routines!

    I use flashcards for note identification, key identification and card games. I have small fly swatters that I give to the student. I call out a note, and the student has to swat that note as fast as possible.

    I like to do a “Mad Minute” to see how many they can do in 60 seconds. Like Karen, I too like to use rhythm cards to play war. Mine have anywhere from 1 to 12 beats on them (homemade).

    I stopped using physical flash cards years ago because they kept getting lost, borrowed and not returned, etc. I bought a staff with a movable note on it that I use occasionally. Now that I have an iPad, most paper stuff has fallen by the wayside! This app really intrigued me at the convention.

    This app looks like so much fun! I watched the “Hot Potato” video and those guys are squealing with delight! I can just see some of my students doing just that! I really like the timer and “ones in a row” games as well!

    I haven’t been a big flashcard user, but following your presentation at ASMTA, I came home and bought an iPad. (I know, you warned us!) I have now increased students’ lesson times by 15 minutes so they all have individual “App Time” in the studio, with earphones, while the next student is beginning their lesson. They have weekly App assignments and they record the scores for me– I’ll know if they cheat!

    I really haven’t used flashcards a lot but am excited to try the app. In this electronic age, I think it will be a great tool.
