This privacy policy has been compiled to better serve those who are concerned with how their ‘Personally Identifiable Information’ (PII) is being used online. PII, as described in US privacy law and information security, is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context. Please read our privacy policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how we collect, use, protect or otherwise handle your Personally Identifiable Information in accordance with our website.

What personal information do we collect from the people that visit our blog, website or app?

When registering on our site, as appropriate, you may be asked to enter your name, email address or other details to help you with your experience.

  • When you opt-in to my email list (subscribe for a freebie, etc.) your email is added to my main mailing list and may also be added to another email sequence that you have shown interest in. This information is only collected when you voluntarily submit the information to me. You may opt out of my mailing list at any time by clicking the unsubscribe button found at the bottom of any email or by emailing me, directly.
  • I do NOT sell or share your email. I take your privacy seriously.

When do we collect information?

We collect information from you when you register on our site, subscribe to a newsletter, fill out a form, enter a giveaway or enter information on our site. This may be through MusicEducatorResources, MER Teachable courses or TpT Music Crew.

How do we collect and store information?

We use 3rd parties to collect and store information (MailChimp, SuMoMe, KingSumo, JetPack)

How do we use your information?

We may use the information we collect from you when you register, sign up for our newsletter, respond to a survey or marketing communication, or use certain other site features in the following ways:

  • To personalize your experience and to allow us to deliver the type of content and product offerings in which you are most interested.
  • To improve our website in order to better serve you.
  • To allow us to better service you in responding to your customer service requests.
  • To administer a contest, promotion, survey or other site feature.
  • To ask for ratings and reviews of services or products
  • To follow up after correspondence

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

How do we protect your information?

We use regular Malware Scanning.

We do not use an SSL certificate

  • We do not need an SSL because:
    • emails are collected through 3rd parties (Mail Chimp- https://mailchimp.com/about/security/; https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/ and SumoMe- https://help.sumome.com/customer/portal/articles/1963436-privacy-policy).

GDPR

We aim to meet the requirements and comply with the new GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation, May 25, 2018).

In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (2018) gives you the right to know what personal data we hold, to have it updated if it is inaccurate or removed entirely if you no longer consent to our use of it. We will endeavor to respond to any such requests within 14 days confirming receipt and outlining what follow-up actions will be taken and when.

Do we use ‘cookies’?

Yes. This is a WordPress site. WordPress uses cookies. We have not enabled Google AdSense on our site but we may do so in the future.

California Online Privacy Protection Act

CalOPPA is the first state law in the nation to require commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act)

We do not specifically market to children under the age of 13 years old.

The Fair Information Practices Principles form the backbone of privacy law in the United States and the concepts they include have played a significant role in the development of data protection laws around the globe. Understanding the Fair Information Practice Principles and how they should be implemented is critical to comply with the various privacy laws that protect personal information.
