Music Teacher Tip #26: The Value of Yes!

Just Ask Jennifer, Misc., Tips

Today I wanted to talk about the value of saying yes! While it’s tempting to say no all of the time, it really isn’t in our best interest. Saying yes can have enormous value to not only others, but ourselves.

When we say yes we…

  • Open up doors
  • Get out of our comfort zone
  • Create stretching moments
  • Create relationships
  • Learn from our success
  • Learn from our mistakes
  • Learn about ourselves
  • Learn about others
  • Become more confident
  • Gain Experience

I wouldn’t be who I am today if it wasn’t for saying yes. Especially to things that took me out of my comfort zone. Just in case you are saying to yourself, “Now I’m confused Jennifer! In the last tip, you said it was important to say no, but now you are saying there is value in saying yes. Which is it?” Well, the answer is both. Only you can determine when it’s right for you to say no and when it’s right for you to say yes. This quote may help you…

“Say NO to the demands of the world. Say YES to the longings of your own heart.” Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Be sure to watch the video below as I dive into more about saying yes.

In the last music teacher tip (#25), I talked about the importance of saying no and shared over 75 ways to do just that. If you didn’t catch the video portion, make sure you do! I had a little fun with that one. 😉 You can catch it all here.
