Review: Note Quest iOS App

Apps, Reviews, Technology

Note Quest is one of the newer note reading apps in the Apple app store. It was founded in 2016 by Grace Lee, a piano teacher herself, who I had the opportunity to meet in person at the last MTNA conference this last March. She decided to create an app that fit the needs of her students but that other teachers and students can enjoy as well. Her goal was to “create a fun tool that’s simple and affordable while helping as many students as possible become more confident piano players.”

I wanted to share a video going through Note Quest and what makes this app unique. Hint: The interval feature is my favorite!

Note Quest is an engaging note reading app that sets up students to not only improve their note-reading but to improve their sight-reading skills as well! Highly recommend!

HIGHLIGHTS:
-5 backgrounds to choose from
– Train by recognizing intervals, not just single pitches
– Grand Staff on all screens (treble and bass)
– Virtual Piano with 4 octaves, your portable instrument
– Even works in Airplane Mode
– Play or compose your own melody at leisure
– Sight singing/interval ear training for singers

CUSTOMIZED LEVELS:
Landmark Notes – Good first notes for beginners
Level 1: Middle C and friends (Bass F to Treble G)
Level 2: Bass C to Treble C (2 octaves)
Level 3: + Two-note intervals (2 octaves)
Level 4: + Black keys – sharps, flats, naturals (4 oct)
Level 5: Cumulative range of notes (4 octaves)
Interval Selector – Choose steps or skips (2nds, 3rds)

You can download Note Quest to use on the iPhone or iPad for free which gives you the landmark notes. (4 levels: F, C, G; 3 C’s; 5 C’s and then a mix) Levels 1-4 are an in-app purchase for $4.99 which includes a bonus practice called interval selector (my favorite!). Currently, it drills 2nds and 3rds with more intervals to be added if there is a demand (YES, please!!!)

I’m currently beta testing some additional features that will be live soon. Grace is always looking for ways to improve and add to the app. To stay updated on all the latest additions, be sure to sign up on her mailing list on her website.

Grace has kindly offered to giveaway 7 lucky teachers to redeem the full version. Yay!

Disclaimer: I was provided with a complimentary download in return for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are of my own and not influenced by the developer.
