Christmas Camp Lesson Plans Added!

Have any fun plans in store for the holiday season? I have been doing Christmas camp for almost 20 years now and will never go back to the traditional lesson format during this time because it has been such a win in my studio. Matter of fact, just the other day while I was explaining Christmas camp to a new student, she piped up and said, “Christmas camp is why I’m taking piano lessons!” I was taken back for a minute and said, really? She said, yes it was after my brother talking about how much fun it was that […]

Free Music Games and Activity Ideas for Christmas

I thought I would share some of my favorite Christmas games and activities I have done with my students over the years. Most do not require any printing! If you are new to the idea of running a Christmas camp or group lesson, I highly recommend it! You can read why and how I do Christmas camps in this post, Christmas Camps: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year! Composition/Improvisation I love to do composition activities with my students. One of my favorite ideas is to take a Christmas story and create sound stories out of them. You can do […]

Light Up The March From The Nutcracker

Last week was our first week of our Nutcracker Christmas camp. One of my favorite activities is using flashlights to help the kids learn about the musical form. Before we bring out the flashlights, I have them pick out the A, B and C sections. Before camp, I had bought and cut up squares of red and green cellophane (I bought mine at Michaels). So when we were ready, I gave the students some squares to fasten with rubber bands over their flashlight. (I had them bring their own flashlight but I had some extra’s just in case). A little tip […]

Christmas Camp: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

I just love this time of year. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas…. I LOVE Christmas music. It just has a way of lifting the spirits and I do not mind it one bit when I hear it in stores, restaurants or radio a little bit “early”. Matter of fact, I was having breakfast with my husband at one of our favorite places last weekend and my eyes totally lit up when I found myself singing along and realizing it was Christmas music!   I have been telling my students this week that Thanksgiving is just a couple weeks away, can you believe […]

Christmas Camp 2014

As you probably know by now, our theme for Christmas camp this year was Christmas Around the World. In my preparation for this camp I definitely over-prepared so we didn’t have time to include Israel/Hanukkah this time. It will definitely get used sometime if not next year. I really enjoyed this camp as there was so much to learn! Students came for 2 hours on their normal lesson day for 2 weeks (4 hours total). If they were unable to come on their normal lesson day, then they attended on another day. This year I decided to do a highlight […]

Christmas Around the World

Did  you hear the good news! Group Made Fun: Christmas Around the World is now available and it’s 20% off right now! I put together a short video to give you a good idea what you can expect. As with all my Group Made Fun units, all the lesson planning is done for you! So it’s super easy to use in whatever way you would like. Christmas Around the World (Sneak Peak)

I’ve been working hard on getting the Christmas Around the World camp done. Even though I’ve done this camp before in my studio, I’m pretty much starting from scratch. While it has been quite the project, it’s been a fun journey in research. My husband is getting his daily doses of “did you know?” followed about what I have been learning about these different countries. I thought I would give you a sneak peak and a tip if this is something you are thinking about doing a Christmas camp or a group lesson. If you follow me on TpT you will […]

Group Made Fun: Christmas Lessons and More!

Halloween isn’t over yet and I’m already talking about Christmas! Well as you know teachers need to be ahead of the game so we are prepared! Over 10+ years ago, I started what I call “Christmas camp” in my studio. For the first two weeks in December my students come once a week for 2 hours each day. I started doing this after being frustrated with all the no shows, cancellations and lack of preparation from my students during this month. I felt there was a better way to enjoy the holidays and allow my students to enjoy them as well. […]

Christmas Stinky Stockings Game

This week I have been polishing up my lesson plans for our studio Christmas camp which will start the first week of December. Just in the nick of time, Wendy Stevens has released a Christmas version of her fun game, Stinky Stockings! Stinky Stockings is a fun interactive “hot potato” style game that will be a holiday hit in your studio! Find a Christmas stocking, toss in the cards, turn on some music and start passing! When the music stops, a student pulls out a card and does what the card says. There are 7 different card topics in this […]

Group Motivation

I recently joined a boxing gym. Even though there are days I could barely stand let alone walk, I keep going back for more. I also go to Zumba class at another gym. I’ve been doing Zumba for over 2 years now. I have never enjoyed working out… until the last couple years, that is. Before I started Zumba classes, a workout meant go on the treadmill, or elliptical or some solitary exercise machine. What I realized is when I’m on a machine, I am not motivated. I don’t push myself like I should be pushed and frankly I’m just […]
