Feature Friday: Practice Incentive Programs

I love to do practice incentive programs with my students each year. Not only do they help motivate many of my students, but just having a new theme to look forward to motivates and gets me excited for the new year. The great thing about practice incentive program is that not only it helps engage students during the year but it helps them accomplish goals. Whether it is specific practice goals or leveling up in some way, they are able to really see measurable progress. For today’s Feature Friday I thought I would highlight all the practice incentive programs that […]

Feature Friday: Activate the Brain!

It’s Feature Friday! I thought I would feature my latest online video course. All my courses can be taken/watched at any time. There is no expiration to get through them. Though I do recommend setting a personal deadline. Summer is the perfect time for some personal and teacher development.   I enjoy learning. There are couple things that really fascinate me. First is the brain specifically how we learn And second, how to engage students in their learning. These two things go hand and hand and it’s a subject I’ve wanted to present for awhile. What started out as a live 50 min. presentation turned into a […]

Feature Friday: Composer Time Capsules

One of my favorite group lesson activities was one I did over 10 years ago, composer time capsules. Time capsules are a fun way to not only learn about someone but they are a great way to remember interesting facts and stories. A couple years ago I started to make my composer time capsules available for teachers to use. Each time capsule comes with 16 facts about a composer and picture cards representing those facts. The best way to see what these time capsules are all about is to watch me introduce them in this video. (The video is older so it […]

Feature Friday: Practice Makes Perfect or Does It?

Practice Makes Perfect or DOES It is a workshop I have been holding with my students for over 10 years. It is one of my favorites because students walk away fully armed with a better understanding of how they should practice. Watch the video to find out which resource I use with students is one of my favorites and why. While I use this workshop for my piano students, it really can be used with any instrument. I think there is only one page in the workbook you would want to pull and just one of the optional outside resources you may not want to use (or can […]
